Research ProjectQuantification of Multidrug Resistance using Biological Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy
I am building upon earlier work for the noninvasive evaluation of the multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) activity on a single cell level. My project aims to further develop and extend this method to other cell lines. I intend to study the activity-expression relationship of MRP1 in HEK-293 and HEK-MRP1 cells, the latter being the MRP1 overexpressing variant, upon exposure to chemotherapeutic drugs. MRP1 expression can be evaluated by flow cytometry. SECM measurements on live cells requires the development of a sound patterning strategy. Currently, we are using oxygen plasma treated Zeonor substrates developed with the National Research Council Canada. |
