Research Project

Finite element simulations of electrochemical processes
No matter what system is being investigated, most electrochemical processes can be described using either the equations of mass transport or kinetics. Knowing this, we can simulate the behaviour a wide variety of systems using simple equations in order to predict concentration profiles, local pH changes, and trends based on experimental conditions.

My project involves using these equations in combination with finite element modelling techniques to study a wide variety of processes, including macro-scale investigating of corroding metal surfaces and micro-scale investigations of microelectrodes of varying geometry used to image the topography and reactivity of surfaces. This involves a mixture of predictive simulations and experimental validation to gain a deeper understanding of a wide variety of electrochemical processes.
