Research Project

Investigation of N-heterocyclic carbene chemistry on Metal surfaces

The oxidation of metal surface effect the surface functional properties, which is detrimental in several industrial applications. The objective of my research is the one-pot reduction of metal surface oxides and simultaneous capping of metal surfaces with N-heterocyclic carbene. The successful reduction and NHC functionalization are confirmed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI). Protecting metal surfaces in such a manner can extend the lifetime of metal surfaces, thereby saving resources, time, and money in targeted industrial applications.
